Tree-Ring Telling.
Research
This project is being developed in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Botany at the Czech Academy of Sciences.
Role
Leading data processing, statistical analysis, and interpretation to uncover key climate-growth relationships.
Status
Ongoing project.
Forests play a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate, yet they are increasingly vulnerable to rising temperatures and changing environmental conditions. Understanding how trees have responded to past climate variations is key to predicting their future resilience in a warming world.
In this project, we investigate how climate influences the long-term growth of trees in northern Japan and the Kuril Islands, Russia. These regions are experiencing significant temperature increases, which could have profound effects on tree health, forest composition, and carbon storage.
By uncovering the growth-climate relationships, our research provides valuable insights into how forests might respond to ongoing climate changes.
